Henry C. Ryke's Obituary
Mr. Henry Cornelius Ryke, age 90, passed away Saturday, August 26, 2017 in Muskegon. He was born in Muskegon on June 21, 1927 to John and Henrietta (Denotter) Ryke and was a lifelong resident of the area. Henry was a veteran of the United States Navy and served during WWII. He was the owner and manager of Ryke’s Bakery for 50 years prior to his retirement in 1998. Henry was a member of Berean Church where he was active with the youth program, Sunday School and was a former board member. He was a member of Gideons International, a former Youth for Christ board member, and was on the original board and one of the founding members of Grace Adventures (formerly Grace Youth Camp). Henry enjoyed volunteering in the community, reading, playing tennis and bringing children to church. On July 7, 1960, Henry married the former Ellen D. Terpstra in Grand Rapids and she preceded him in death on June 18, 2011. He is survived by two sons, James T. Ryke and David P. (Darci) Ryke, three grandchildren, Rebecca Huston and Kami and Ashden Ryke and one sister, Ruth (Robert) Carr. In addition to his wife, Ellen, Henry was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Daniel M. Ryke; two brothers, John and Sam Ryke and two sisters, Marie Borgeson and Betty VanDyke. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held 11:00 AM Friday, September 1, 2017 at Berean Church (635 Seminole Rd.) with Dr. Robert Renberg officiating. VISITATION will be from 5-8 PM Thursday, August 31, 2017 at The Sytsema Chapel, 737 Apple Ave, 231-726-5210. Burial will be in Laketon Township Cemetery. MEMORIALS in Henry’s memory may be directed to Grace Adventures or Gideons International.
