Being a Mosley can be a quite a tall order as a young girl meeting much of her extended family on rare occassions, especically when the Alabama Mosley's came to call! Being the same age as Herbie helped. He was always friendly in a shy quiet way helping me and my siblings get to know all the cousins. Then we always had alot of fun running around and swimmimg at Aunt Betty's and Aunt Beatrices. His quiet smile BURSTING into a GIANT laugh is something I'll always remember. His kind heart, and his ability to put others at ease was a gift from GOD.
As a teenager I'll always remamber our secret bond.When Herbie moved to Mona Shores I was excited to share my cousin the "HUNK" and football star with all my friends.--Let me just say they were excited too!!!
A better person GOD could not have created than Herbie.

I was shocked and then saddened to hear of Herb's passing. I still can't believe it. Memories of him have come rushing back these last few days. That smile that never seemed to leave his face, the easy-going way he carried himself and that laugh. His eyes sparkled when he did. He was so easy to be around. My memories are full of laughter and fun times just hanging out together. I remember many hours spent at his house talking with his mom, sometimes dad and joking around with Doreen. Everybody loved Herbie. I will never forget the time one of his many admirers said, "You are so lucky to be Herb Whelpley's cousin"! Well, I couldn't have agreed with them more. My memories growing up are filled with him in them. Always smiling and never an unkind word. I am very grateful, now, for the time we spent last September at grandma Jane's birthday party reminiscing and talking about our lives and children. He spoke of Amber and Austin with such joy. Aunt Darlene, Uncle Herb, Doreen, Amber, Austin & all the clan...Herbie leaves us here with a legacy of many happy memories. I pray they will comfort you, they do comfort me. I am very sorry to hear Herbie has passed. I didn't get a chance to see him much in the last years, but I know the world will feel the loss of him. I always thought the world of Herb. He was always kind, and sincere. I will miss his smile. He always had one for me whenever I saw him. I can only say I was blessed for being able to know Herbie. Playing baseball together was a pleasure for me. I wish I could say something prophetic to help everyone who loved him to feel better. The words elude me. I will miss him. He was always considered my friend and now the Lord will look after him. That I am certain. Circumstances will keep me from being at his services, but I will pray for all of us at this seemingly bad time.
