Hugh D. Hyde's Obituary
Mr. Hugh Dennis Hyde, age 79, of Spring Lake passed away October 4, 2013 at his home. He was born September 4, 1934 in Detroit, MI to Edna (Brandenburg) and Robert Hyde. He married Ruthann Baldus in Spring Lake and she passed away in 1999. He then married Marjorie Brown in 2000 in Spring Lake.
Hugh graduated from South High School in Grand Rapids and also earned an associates degree from Grand Rapids Community College in civil engineering. He moved to this area from Grand Rapids in 1959 and was employed for the City of Grand Haven as an engineer and building inspector. He was most recently employed at Spring Lake Cemetery. Hugh served his country in the U. S. Army during the Korean War.
Hugh was a member of Spring Lake Presbyterian Church where he enjoyed singing in the choir. He was a member of Spring Lake Township Zoning Board of Appeals and also a member and former Post Commander of the American Legion Charles Conklin Post 28. He loved woodworking, music, reading history novels of WWII, golf, and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife Marjorie, one daughter Sheila Hyde of Coopersville, three sons; Bryan Hyde of Minot, North Dakota, Jeffrey Hyde of Keymar, Maryland, and Craig (Mikki) Hyde of Grand Haven; nine grandchildren; two step-daughters Chris Brown and Caryl (Paul) Ortega both of Grand Haven and one brother James Hyde. He was preceded in death by his first wife Ruthann and daughter Allison Hyde.
The Funeral Service for Hugh will be held Thursday, October 10, 2013, 1:00 P.M. at the Spring Lake Presbyterian Church with Pastor Gary Lacy officiating. Visitation will be held 6-8 PM Wednesday at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Spring Lake. Interment will be in Spring Lake Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the American Legion Charles A. Conklin Post #28. Memorial contributions in memory of Hugh may be given to Hospice of North Ottawa Community.
