Mrs. Ila Marie "Suzie" Atkins' Obituary
Mrs. Ila Marie “Suzie” Atkins, age 94, went to be with Jesus on Saturday, October 3, 2015 in Muskegon. She was born in Drury Township, IL on February 15, 1921. On June 3, 1939, she married Clarence Atkins and he preceded her in death in 1984. Suzie had worked for many years as the first female bus driver at Churchill School. She devoted 23 years of volunteer work as a courier and surgery waiting receptionist at Hackley Hospital. Suzie enjoyed sewing, knitting and crocheting, and time spent hunting and fishing with her husband. She is survived by her daughter, Peggy (William) Barton; one daughter-in-law, Vicki Atkins; six grandchildren, Shelley Barton, Bill Barton, Jon (Nicole) Barton, David (Kelly) Atkins, Randy (Jean) Atkins and Erin Atkins; 12 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Suzie was preceded in death by her son, Jim W. Atkins; her granddaughter, Susan Barton; and her brother, Harvey Bartlett. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, October 11, 2015 at Lake Harbor United Methodist Church (4861 South Henry St.) with Rev. Mary Ivanov officiating.
