Irene J. Dobb's Obituary
Irene J. Dobb, age 89, passed away from natural causes on Tuesday May 19, 2020, at MediLodge at the Shore. She was the youngest child of Ralph C. and Sarah (Knoll) Dobb, born on May 28, 1930, in Muskegon.
Irene attended the Muskegon Public Schools, starting at Angell School in 1935 and graduating from Muskegon High School in 1948. Irene then went to Hackley School of Nursing-1951, Muskegon Junior College-1954, and then on to the University of Michigan in 1957, where she obtained her BS in Public Health Nursing. In 1958 she joined Hackley School of Nursing as an instructor, where she taught until the mid-1970’s. Many of her early students may recall her requirement of “clean and polished” white shoes. Irene also taught at MCC and area nursing homes. She was a member of Unity Reformed Church since her Cradle Roll enrollment, in July 1930. She was also very active for several years in the Muskegon Heritage Association and Muskegon County Museum/Lakeshore Museum Center.
She is lovingly remembered by multiple generations of nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, Irene was preceded in death by her siblings and their spouses: Maude (Frank) Piontek, Delia (Dick) VanderStelt, George (Lorraine) Dobb and Jim (Betty) Dobb.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorials in Irene’s memory may be directed to Unity Reformed Church or The Lakeshore Museum Center. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
