James "Jim" C. Bartels' Obituary
Mr. James “Jim” C. Bartels, age 93, of Grand Haven passed away Friday, February 26, 2016. He was born February 11, 1923 in Muskegon Heights to Levi and Nettie (Workman) Bartels.
Jim was a veteran of the US Army and served in WW II. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and the Charles A. Conklin American Legion Post 28 and the Grand Haven Rotary. Jim was former owner and operator of Kinkema-Bartels Funeral Home until merging with VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home on January 1, 1978. He always felt so honored to serve his community and did so even after retirement in 1985. This year was Jim’s 69th year as a licensed Funeral Director.
On June 18, 1948 he married Erma Johannes in Grand Haven and she survives him along with two sons: Bradley (Dawn) Bartels and Scott Bartels both of Grand Haven; one granddaughter, Kim (Jason) Rykse of Dover, OH; three great-grandchildren: Hailey, Maddox, and Abram Rykse. He is also survived by one sister, Leona Boerigter of Zeeland. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Bernard and Donald Bartels.
Funeral services will be held 12:00 PM Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at St. John’s Lutheran Church with Rev. Ronald Moritz officiating. Visitation will be 5-7 PM Monday, February 29, 2016 at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Grand Haven. Interment will take place in Lake Forest Cemetery.
