Mr. James "Jim" G. Goudzwaard, Sr.'s Obituary
Mr. James “Jim” Gordon Goudzwaard, age 86, passed away Thursday January 1, 2015. He was born on October 12, 1928 to Louis and Alice (Koning) Goudzwaard and married Doris Mae Post on September 15, 1949. Prior to marriage he proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. Jim began his work outdoors early in life; starting on his dad’s celery farm and later in the greenhouse/nursery business, operating Goudzwaard Nursery for more than 50 years. In addition to his outdoor work Jim also started working at Baldwin Heating learning skills of a tinsmith which he expanded at Continental Motors for approximately 30 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Betty, Mildred and Ida Jeane; daughter in law, Mary Jo Goudzwaard. Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Doris; daughters, Judith(James) Hylen, Joan (Jerry) Williams; sons, James Goudzwaard Jr. and John (Nancy) Goudzwaard; 10 grand children; 14 great grandchildren; brother, Jack (Elaine) Goudzwaard; and several nieces and nephews. A FUNERAL SERVICE for Jim will be held at Laketon Bethel Reformed Church (1568 West Giles Rd.) on Wednesday January 7, 2015 at 11:00 AM with visitation an hour prior to services. A private burial will take place at Laketon Township Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to The Sytsema Chapel, 737 Apple Ave., (231-726-5210).
