James P. Lewis' Obituary
Mr. James P. Lewis, age 91, passed away on July 21, 2023, in Muskegon, MI. He was born January 3, 1932, in Muskegon to Percy and Clarice (Smith) Lewis and had been a life resident of the area. Jim retired as a Supervisor from Shaw-Walker Co. in 1992, where he had been employed for 41 years. He was a former member of the Fruitport Fire Dept. and of the Fruitport Police Dept., where he had served as Chief. Jim was a member of the Father Rudy & Father Clem Council #13035 Knights of Columbus and of The Fruitport Eagles since 1975. He was a Boy Scout Troop 27 leader from 1958-1964, he co-founded Beach Baseball League and served as coach from 1960-1985, and he helped build Smokey Park Baseball Field. He also enjoyed camping, golfing, and bowling. Jim was loved by so many! He gave a smile and brought laughter and happiness to anyone he encountered. On April 28, 1951, he married the former Marie Kolarik and she preceded him in death on February 4, 2015. SURVIVORS include five children: Edward (Vickie Way) Lewis of Howard City, Marcia (Norm) Dodge of Munising, MI, Linda (David) Reynolds of Muskegon, Lori Lewis of Fayetteville, GA and Debra (Jeff) Murak of Spring Lake; 8 grandchildren, Lori (Al) Watson, Janel (Isaac) Brown, Denis (Dana) Clark, Krystal (Will) Peavy, Kimberly (Chance) Drennan, Randi-Lynn Barney, Tyler Murak and Dylan Murak; 12 great-grandchildren; several great-great grandchildren; 1 brother, Earl (Pat) Lewis of Fruitport; and 1 brother-in-law, Steve Klup of Walhalla, MI. Jim was also preceded in death by brothers, Jerry and Dale Lewis; and sisters, Irma Frazine, Thelma Orquist, Dorothy Kleyn and Janet Klup.
A MEMORIAL VISITATION for Jim will be held from 5:00-7:00 PM on Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI 49444.
