James Arthur Tackmann's Obituary
Mr. James Arthur Tackmann, age 76, passed away Wednesday, June 22, 2011, at his home. He was born March 22, 1935 in Ypsilanti, MI, to Arthur and Thelma (Short) Tackmann. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during the Korean War. On June 18, 1957, he married the former Margaret M. Richards in Royal Oak, MI and she survives him. He received his master’s degree in education from Eastern Michigan University and began his career as a high school teacher and coached numerous high school sports. He eventually became the superintendent of Fennville Public Schools and Cedar Springs Public Schools. He was a devoted University of Michigan football fan. He was a member of Community of Faith United Methodist Church in Davenport, FL. He was a member of Rotary and a Paul Harris Fellow. He also co-founded and was a supporter of the Cedar Springs Education Foundation. Along with his wife, Margaret, he is also survived by 5 children, Mary Wieringa of Coopersville, Sara (Rick) Potes of Rockford, Curtis (Karen) Tackmann of Cedar Springs, Douglas (Heidi) Tackmann of Lowell, David (Michelle) Tackmann of Lowell; 12 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 1 son-in-law, Don Wieringa. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at Rockford United Methodist Church, 159 Maple St., Rockford, MI 49341.
