James R. "Jim" Muenstermann's Obituary
Mr. James R. “Jim” Muenstermann, age 74, passed away Sunday afternoon, June 5, 2005 at a local hospital. He was born May 25, 1931 in Kankakee, IL to Sylvester and Margaret (Wathen) Muenstermann and lived in the Muskegon area most of his life. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving in the Korean Conflict. On May 11, 1957, he married the former JoAnn M. O’Connor in Irwin, IL. Jim worked as a retail and purchasing manager for Aldens Department Store for 12 years and retired in 1978 from Hardy Herpolsheimer’s Department Store after 10 years. Jim was very involved as a coordinator for the Covenant of Healing Love Prayer Community. He was also the founder and coordinator of the Hackley Hospital Eucharistic Ministry. Jim had been the past president of the Muskegon Serrans for Vocations. Most recently, Jim had served on the board of the Divine Mercy Adoration Chapel at St. Michael Catholic Church. Jim was a very active communicant of St. Mary’s Catholic Church where he served as a Eucharistic Minister, Lector and was a member of the church choir. He was also a member of the American Legion in Whitehall. Jim is SURVIVED by his wife, JoAnn Muenstermann; 3 sons, Scott Muenstermann, Stephen (Maggie) Muenstermann, Patrick (Denise) Muenstermann; 1 daughter, Libby (Dennis) Spencer; 10 grandchildren, Melissa, Jennifer, Marie, Daniel, Christopher, Stephen, Katie, Erin, Kelly, Michael; 2 great grandchildren, Jacob and April; 3 step-grandchildren, Molly, Gabby, and Hannah; 1 sister, Doris Murry, 1 sister-in-law, Carole Muenstermann; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, Donald and John, and 2 sisters, Eleanor and Zerita. THE FUNERAL LITURGY will be celebrated 2:00 PM Thursday, June 9, 2005 at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Ernest J. Bernott presiding. INTERMENT will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery. VISITATION with Jim’s family will be 2-4 and 6-8 PM Wednesday at The Walburn Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc., 1547 W. Sherman Blvd., (231) 759-8565. The Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 PM Wednesday evening.
