Jan (Sabra) Martin's Obituary
Jan was born July 27th, 1961, and passed away on August 10th, 2023. She was the 4th child born out of 5. Jan was born and raised in Grand Rapids but spent the last 15 years of her life in the Muskegon area.
Her loved ones who passed before her include both of her parents, Eugene and Jewel Mullins of Kingsport, Tennessee, brother, Max Mullins, and niece, Emily James. Jan leaves behind her loving husband, Mike, two sons, Brad and Eric Sikkema, the greatest joy of her life, her only grandson, Connor Sikkema, stepsons, Jason and Jake Martin, siblings, John Mullins, Carolyn Kieda, and Kay Gleason, nieces, Krista Stites, Hayley (Ryan) Rusco, Meri (Zach) Mullins, Morgan (Robert) Spencer, Madeline Mullins, nephew, Chris (Nicole) Mullins, and great nephews Devin Mullins, Wyatt Mullins, Bobby Spencer, and great niece, Quinn Mullins, amongst many other loved relatives, friends, and coworkers.
Jan worked at many senior care facilities in the Muskegon area in the dietary department cooking the best food for the residents. One of Jan’s passions was cooking for everyone, and she always added extra love. She also loved enjoying a nice meal with family and friends. Jan could often be heard saying “I can make that better!” when trying food. This made those around her laugh because they knew it was true.
In 2011, Jan became “Gramma Jan” with the birth of her only grandchild, Connor. She loved Connor more than life itself. She was always so proud of his accomplishments, creativity, and artistic talent. She loved bragging about what an awesome kid he was becoming, and how smart he was.
As a family, we would like to thank all the wonderful and caring nurses, doctors, and Gift of Life Staff at Trinity Health Hospital in Muskegon for taking such good care of Jan while she was there.
The family, friends, and coworkers of Jan are heartbroken at this unimaginable and unexpected loss. We know that Jan would want us to celebrate her beautiful life and memory with good food, laughter, and music (especially “Spirit in The Sky” by Norman Greenbaum). There will be a celebration of her life at a later date, to be announced on Facebook.
Jan was a friend to everyone she knew and met. She was the most loving, caring, kind, and forgiving person. She was always helping people whether it was making something delicious or lending a listening ear. If you want to honor Jan and keep her memory alive, donate blood if you are able (Jan was a regular donor throughout her life!), be kind to others, be giving, and be a better human. Simply put, to know Jan, was to love Jan.
