Jane Shirley Schroeder, age 91, of Spring Lake passed away Tuesday, March 6, 2007, at a local hospital. She was born May 4, 1915, in Milwaukee, WI, to Burton and Hilda (Liebner) Schroeder and had lived in Spring Lake since 1920. Read Obituary

Jane was one of the most wonderful people that I have ever known, and I've known her all my life. She and my mother, Doris Nicholson, were roommates at the University of Michigan, and she was a bridesmaid at my parents' wedding in 1940. Jane, my mother and father, John Nicholson (Nick)were very close, and my brothers and I called her Aunt Jane. Some of my best memories are of the many childhood summers spent at Spring Lake and Lake Michigan, thanks to Jane introducing my parents to the area. Jane was always so kind to all of us children, so easy going and fun to be with. In later years, Jane and I shared the same political views and a love of books and reading. Aunt Jane, how I will miss you. You were simply the best. My mother will miss the wonderful friendship that the two of you shared for seventy years.##imported-begin##Susan Siegel##imported-end##
The Matriarch of Coles Park will live in our hearts forever! We lived on Coles Park going back to the 50's and continue to own and rent out the family home there. We managed to see Jane briefly at least once a year. Jane's presence and personality played a huge role in making Coles Park a very special place. She will be sorely missed! Jane has been dear to us since we came to teach in Spring Lake in 1960. She was always supportive of Greg's work teaching music and social studies at SLHS and very much enjoyed the music program at the SL Presbyterian Church which Greg directed with Claire's assistance for several years. Our family has spent the past 23 years at our cottage on Coles Park St. Jane was a wonderful neighbor and friend. I often talked with her while sitting on the beach at Coles Park. She knew so much about our neighborhood and surrounding cities. We will miss her dearly.
