Jane Schroeder's Obituary
Jane Shirley Schroeder, age 91, of Spring Lake passed away Tuesday, March 6, 2007, at a local hospital. She was born May 4, 1915, in Milwaukee, WI, to Burton and Hilda (Liebner) Schroeder and had lived in Spring Lake since 1920.
Jane earned her undergraduate and Master’s degrees from the University of Michigan and was a loyal alumnus. Early in her career, Jane worked in Germany and Japan teaching U.S. Military personnel dependents. She was a dedicated teacher at Spring Lake High School and at Muskegon Heights High School. She then was a Guidance Counselor at Muskegon Heights and Mona Shores high schools. Jane was an active member and former deacon of Spring Lake Presbyterian Church. She was also an avid swimmer who enjoyed swimming laps at the Y.M.C.A. until age 89. She was also a former board member of Love, INC.
Jane is survived by 2 nieces, Sara (Jim) Keaney of Old Saybrook, Connecticut, and Anne (Jim) Hilmer of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; 2 great-nieces, Ann (Shawn) Gavin of Massachusetts and Sarah (David) DuBois of Minnesota; 2 great-nephews, Michael Keaney of Massachusetts and John Hilmer of Pennsylvania; and 2 great-great-nephews, Cooper and Graham Gavin. Her life was enriched by her many loving and supportive friends in the Spring Lake and Grand Haven communities. Jane was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Burton Schroeder, in 1990, and lifelong friend Lorraine VanBeukering.
The service for Jane will be held 3:00 p.m. Saturday, March 10, 2007, at Spring Lake Presbyterian Church with Jen Porter officiating.
