Janet L. "Jan" Dethloff's Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of Janet “Jan” Lynn Dethloff, age 76, who passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, while wintering in Florida with her beloved husband, Rick. Jan was born on October 5, 1949, in Muskegon, Michigan, to Peter and Clarissa (Poel) Kroeze. A proud graduate of Western Michigan Christian High School, Class of 1967, Jan later married the love of her life, Richard C. “Rick” Dethloff, on January 24, 1969, in Muskegon. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and faith for nearly 57 years. Jan dedicated over 30 years to PNC Bank, where she excelled in a variety of roles and was known for her kindness and professionalism. After retiring, she continued to stay active, working at the Dethloff Insurance Agency. Her strong work ethic and caring nature left a lasting impression on everyone she met. A devoted member of Calvin Church, Jan’s faith was a guiding light throughout her life. Her genuine warmth and compassion touched all who knew her. She cherished her family above all else—her happiest moments were those spent surrounded by her husband, children, and grandchildren. Though her health struggles over the last year were difficult, Jan faced them with remarkable courage and grace. Her family takes comfort knowing she is now at peace, reunited in Heaven with her beloved grandson, Brennan, who passed in 2021. Jan is survived by her loving husband, Rick; her children, Kevin (Kristen) Dethloff, Brian (Rona) Dethloff, and Sue (Dave) Lattin; and her adored grandchildren, Noah, Lauren (Thomas) Bowes, Luke, Carter, Jake (Abby), and Eli. She is also survived by her brothers-in-law, Wayne Bishop and Gary Skodack, and several nieces and nephews. Jan will be fondly remembered by her lifelong group of dear friends, the “FAB 5,” who faithfully gathered each month for lunch and laughter. She was preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Clarissa (Poel) Kroeze; her stepmother, Clarissa Dick Kroeze; her grandson, Brennan Dethloff; her sister, Joan Bishop; and her sister-in-law, Linda Skodack. A Celebration of Jan’s Life will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, April 25, 2026, at Calvin Church (937 W. Norton Ave., Muskegon, MI 49441).
