Janice A. "Jan" Swift's Obituary
Janice Anne Swift, age 84, passed away Wednesday morning, April 26, 2023. She was born March 31, 1939 in Muskegon, MI to Edward and Margaret (Enkelman) Gustafson. Jan graduated from Muskegon High School in 1956. On August 1, 1971, she married Walter Swift in Monroe, MI and enjoyed 51 years of marriage together. During her career as a secretary, she worked for several companies, the Illinois Central Railroad, Edlund Machinery, Quality Farm and Fleet, Hackley Hospital, and most recently, 13 years at Trinity Lutheran Church prior to her retirement. She was an active member of the church and a faithful member of the Altar Guild and Ruth Circle. Jan also loved to read and sew. If you knew Jan, you knew that no matter what, she always had a smile on her face. SURVIVORS include her husband, Walt; son, Brad (Christine) Swift of Hudsonville; two step-children: Mark and Mike Swift both of Las Vegas; three grandchildren: Mason and Connor Swift, and Linsay (Jack) McMahon; two great-grandsons: Edgar and Jack; and a sister-in-law, Cherie Gustafson of Rochester, MI. Jan was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers: Bill and Brian Gustafson. A CELEBRATION OF JAN’S LIFE will be held 11:00 AM Friday, May 5, 2023 at Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Paul C. Appold and Pastor Dennis Lassanske officiating. VISITATION with the family will be from 5-7 PM Thursday, May 4, 2023 at The Walburn Chapel of Sytsema Funeral and Cremation Services, 1547 W. Sherman Blvd., Muskegon, MI 49441 (231) 759-8565, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Jan will be laid to rest in the Resurrection Garden at the church.
