I was 11 yrs old when I met Jay. He was pushing an ice cream cart, my brother was with him, they had recently become friends. Jay offered me an orangesicle, I did not have a dime, he gave it to me anyway. I have seen Jay off and on over the years, it was always as if time stood still, we instantly became friends again, we had a bond and we both instantly felt it. The last time I saw Jay was Oct 2001, when my brother passed away. Jay was a friend to my brothers growing up, he would go to church with us. We would all be in the back of the church bus singing a "battle hymn" that Jay taught us, he loved to sing. My brothers were telling me that Jay was visiting with Dan. So when I went home for the funeral, I was happy to see Jay and reminisce. He made that time bearable, as he always did. Jay was always the kindest, sweetest, person. I'll always remember the twinkle in his eye, and that beautiful smile. He was never a stranger, he was a blessing in my life. I wish I could have seen him one more time,
