Jean C. Karell's Obituary
Jean C. Karell, age 87, of Grand Haven passed away Wednesday, April 11, 2007, at a Muskegon hospital. She was born June 10, 1919, in Robinson Township to John and Laura (Prentice) Cameron, and she married Stephen Karell on June 20, 1941, in Grand Haven. He preceded her in death on February 20, 1977.
Jean was a lifelong resident of the Grand Haven area and a 1937 graduate of Grand Haven High School. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of the Dunes in Grand Haven, the Grand Haven Women’s Club, and the Girl Scouts of Michigan Trails. She had been a swimming instructor for Grand Haven Area Public Schools.
Survivors include her daughter, Jean (Roger) Ryan of Grand Haven; two sons, Steven (Jean) Karell of Grand Haven and Jenson Beach, FL, and Jon (Denora) Karell of Spring Lake; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Vivian Cameron and Joan Karell, both of Grand Haven; and a brother-in-law Paul Mergener of Eaton Rapids. In addition to her husband, Jean was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters: Dorothy Mergener and Esther McCaleb.
