Jerome D. "Jerry" VanAelst's Obituary
Jerome D. “Jerry” VanAelst, age 73, passed away Wednesday evening, May 10, 2017. He was born September 3, 1943 in Ludington, MI to Jerome A. and Doreen (Gallie) VanAelst. Jerry worked 43 years for Hayes Lemmerz as the operations manager/pattern engineer prior to his retirement. On January 22, 1977, he married the former Margaret “Maggie” Soli in Muskegon. Jerry was a member of the American Legion in Indiana and was an avid reader and golfer; but most of all, he loved spending time with family. SURVIVORS include his wife, Maggie; 2 children: Timothy (Francine) VanAelst of Tennessee, Tammie Mortimer of Grand Rapids; 3 grandchildren; brother, Dave (Christine) VanAelst of Fruitport; sister, Beth (Ed) Smith of Noblesville, IN; and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. A MEMORIAL SERVICE for Jerry will be held 11:00 AM Monday, May 15, 2017 at The Sytsema Chapel, 737 Apple Ave., (231) 726-5210, with Rev. Gerald Hagans officiating. VISITATION with the family will be one hour prior to the service. Memorials to the American Cancer Society will be appreciated.
