Jesse L. Curtiss' Obituary
Jesse L. Curtiss, age 79, of Spring Lake went to be with his Lord on Monday, April 19, 2010. He was born May 16, 1930, in Mason, MI, to Wayne and Huldah (Wagner) Curtis, and he married the former Shirley Morbeck on January 26, 1960, in Muskegon.
Jesse loved sports from a very early age. The pride of his school days was playing on great football and baseball teams in high school. Jesse attended Central Michigan University and Michigan State University and graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in Civil Engineering. He served two tours of duty in the U.S. Army, including nine months in Korea during the Korean War. He worked thirty years as a construction engineer for MDOT and was the project engineer for construction of the M-104 bridge over the Spring Lake Channel. He was a member of First Congregational Church of Fruitport and the VFW Post #3734 in Fruitport. His hobbies included building projects, gardening, and astronomy.
Jesse was a man of great character and integrity. He lived each day of his life as an example to all who knew him. He was loving, honest, compassionate, and encouraging. The biggest joys of Jesse’s life were his wife of 50 years, Shirley, his children, and his grandchildren, all of whom he loved dearly, and he made sure each and every one of them knew it. In addition to his wife, Jesse is survived by a daughter, Karen (Dave) Bogi of Spring Lake; three sons: Donald (Denise) Curtiss of Spring Lake, Dave Madison of Ferrysburg, and Wayne (Mali) Madison of Madison, WI; ten grandchildren: Matthew (Angela) Madison, Chris, Todd, and Troy Madison; Lindsay and Michelle Bogi, Jessica and Dakota Curtiss, and Britanni and Amanda Kaiser; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Judy Munro of Mason, MI; and a brother, Bud (Betty) Curtis of Six Lakes, MI.
