Jill M. Misner's Obituary
Jill M. Misner, age 81, passed away Saturday, August 13, 2022. She was born September 24, 1940, in Chicago, Illinois, to Stanley and Eva (Mc Connell) Alms. After high school, Jill would graduate from Western Michigan University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. Although she spent some time teaching, her love for literature led to working at The Bookman in Grand Haven, MI. She was the go-to person when you walked into the store and spent close to 45 years helping customers. Jill had a passion for acquiring knowledge & information until the very end of her life, especially about the natural world and current events. She was a staunch advocate for environmental preservation well before it was widespread and had the desire for the rights of women and children. In the arts, she was best known for sewing but she also enjoyed such creative endeavors as pottery, wood carving and stained glass. She was a fantastic baker. In addition to travel, reading and gardening, she liked movies and going to art museums in particular. In her work life she also was employed by Dr. Kurt Spieske, in his orthodontics practice for many years. She married Charles D. Misner in 1963 and they were together until his passing on September 23, 2007. Jill will be missed by her son, David (Della) Misner; daughter, Aimee (David) Wilson; grandchildren, Sophia Wilson, Nicholas Wilson, and Lilly Misner; and sisters Judy (Alms) Hoyle and Joyce (Alms) Ransford. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, John Alms. A Memorial Gathering will be held from 11am-1pm on August 27, 2022, at The VanZantwick Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 620 Washington Ave., Grand Haven, MI 49417.
