Joan Marquerite Harker's Obituary
Ms Joan Marquerite Harker, age 79, passed away Wednesday, January 26, 2010, at her home. She was born December 14, 1930 in Muskegon to Francis and Cecilia (LaRocque ) Martin. Joan started her career as a day care provider, later becoming a medical transcriptionist in Port Huron and working in the same capacity at Mercy Hospital for over 30 years prior to her retirement in 2004. Joan was an artist, working in oils, and enjoyed listening to classical music. She also loved dance and attended many dance classes. Joan enjoyed her home, garden and gardening. She very much loved her family and especially her great- grandchildren. She was also very fond of her cat, Pretty Girl. Joan is survived by her children: Paul (Leanne) Harker of Lansing, Steven (Debbie) Harker of Atlanta, GA, Linda (Roger) Wood of Muskegon, Patrick Harker of Muskegon, and Ann Westerman of Rockford; 7 grandchildren: Maddie, Shaun, Andrea, Thomas, Aaron, Krystal, and Sarah; 3 great- grandchildren, Caleb, Skylar, and McKenzie; 4 sisters: Ruth Stevens of Muskegon, Theresa Smith of Montague, Mary (John) Allen of Muskegon, and Suzanne (Charles) Brown of Spring Lake; 4 brothers: Thomas (Joann) Martin of AZ, Joseph (Kathy) Martin , Daniel Martin, and Donald Martin, all of Muskegon; sisters-in-law, Peggy (Bud) Martin-Hansen and Maryanne Martin; and many nieces and nephews She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Martin, and her special friend of nearly 20 years, Richard Drummund, in November of 2009. The MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will be celebrated 11AM Saturday, January 30, 2010 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church (2929 McCracken) with Rev. Fr. D. Anton Tran as Celebrant. VISITATION will be held Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at The Walburn Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 1547 W Sherman Blvd.(231) 759-8565 with the Rosary being prayed at 6 PM and one hour (10-11AM) at the church.
