John A. DeYoung's Obituary
Mr. John Albert DeYoung, age 89, passed away on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at the Harbor Hospice Poppen Residence. He was born on December 4, 1925 in Muskegon Heights to Abel and Albertha (Southland) DeYoung, and resided in the Muskegon area his entire life. John worked as a longshoreman and foreman at the Mart Dock for 30 years, and was a truck driver for 20 years before retiring in 1997. He was a past member of Fellowship Reformed Church, and most recently attended the services at Park Terrace. John enjoyed hunting, bowling, golfing and camping, but most of all spending time with his family. On September 12, 1947, he married the love of his life, Corina Pixley and together they celebrated 67 years of marriage. SURVIVORS include his wife Corina; 4 children, John (Carol) DeYoung of Byron Center, MI, Ronald DeYoung of Syracuse, IN, Barbi DeYoung of Muskegon and Don (Sue) DeYoung of Muskegon; 23 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren plus one on the way; 2 sisters, Katie DeYoung and Marion DeYoung both of Muskegon; 1 brother-in-law and 3 sisters-in-law. John was preceded in death by his 3 brothers, Jay DeYoung, Abel DeYoung, Jr., and Harold DeYoung; and great granddaughter, Ashlyn Brooks. The MEMORIAL SERVICE will be 4PM Friday at The Lee Chapel Family Center, 6291 S. Harvey St., (231) 798-1100 with Rev. Ken Vanderlaan officiating. VISITATION with the family will be from 2-4PM Friday.
