John Paul Abair's Obituary
Mr. John Paul Abair, age 94, passed away on Sunday, September 21, 2024 in Muskegon, Michigan. He was born in Muskegon on October 1, 1929 to Dorsey and Sophie (Pietkiewicz) Abair. John served his country in the United States Marine Corps. He was a member of the Holton American Legion and St. Thomas Catholic Church. While working at Anaconda Wire and Cable, he met and fell in love with Martha Ivanick, and they were married on January 5, 1952. John later went to work for SD Warren Papermill and was employed for over 24 years prior to his retirement in 1993. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed hunting, picking mushrooms, and spending time at their home on Middle Lake. He was also a talented artist and enjoyed drawing wildlife scenes. John is survived by his son, Paul (Kristin) Abair of Norton Shores; grandchildren, Stephanie Edwards of Florida, Sean Abair of Holland, Gabrielle McIntyre of North Carolina, and Devin Rakowski of Grand Rapids; four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha; parents; infant son, Joseph Abair; sister, Marie Abair, and brother, Richard Abair. SERVICES will be 11:00 AM Thursday, September 26, 2024 at The Sytsema Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 737 E. Apple Ave., Muskegon, MI 49442. VISITATION will be one hour prior to his service. Burial will be in East Dalton Oakhill Cemetery. MEMORIALS in memory of John may be directed to the American Cancer Society.
