John W. Averill's Obituary
John Wayne Averill, age 67, passed away on Thursday, February 13, 2025. He was born September 24, 1957, in Muskegon to Vernon and Elizabeth (Cunningham) Averill. John graduated from Coopersville High School in 1975 and immediately enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served our country from 1975 until being discharged in 1979, and three of those years were spent in Germany. On December 27, 1980, he married the former Penny Michelle Faulkner in Coopersville and celebrated 45 wonderful years together. He enjoyed riding his mini-bike and going for rides, but more importantly, was the time spent with his family. John will be greatly missed by all who knew him. SURVIVORS include his wife, Penny; three children: Josh Averill of Muskegon, Fred (Amanda) Averill of Ravenna, and Jennifer (Amanda Parson) Averill of Ravenna; six grandchildren: Aubre, Brookelyn, Fredrick, Aalea, Jaden, and Jillian; two great-grandchildren: Novalea and Layton; brother, Larry Averill of Grand Haven; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Bill Averill. A celebration of John’s life will be held from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM on Friday, February 21, 2025, at the American Legion Sherman Moore Post #297, 3590 Conklin St., Ravenna, MI 49451. Military Honors will be taking place at 5:00 PM, performed by the Ravenna American Legion Post #297 Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Ravenna Lions Club will be appreciated.
