John O. Gibbs II, D.O.'s Obituary
John O’Gilvie Gibbs II, D.O., of Twin Lake, MI, age 73, passed away on Saturday, May 10, 2025. John was born in Owosso, MI, on December 12, 1951, to Jack and Elizabeth (Greene) Gibbs. John worked an assortment of jobs in his early years, including teaching at an elementary school, managing a county airport, bartending, and painting billboards. He later decided to go to medical school at Des Moine University College of Osteopathic Medicine and worked as an anesthesiologist in Detroit and then Muskegon for many years before retiring in 2010. In 1992 he met the former Lisa Miller, and they quickly grew close together. On September 29, 2001, they were married at their home in Twin Lake and the two of them loved the life they built together over the years.
John was an excellent carpenter and craftsman who could fix about anything, and he loved spending time making sure his yard and garden looked nice. He loved travelling with Lisa, and the two of them went on many adventures together. He enjoyed hunting, collecting coins and currency, and working on crosswords and other puzzles. John was always reading and trying to learn something new. He was a talented, bright individual who was always looking for fun, and his quick wit and spunky attitude will be missed by all who knew him.
John will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Lisa; two siblings, Geoff Gibbs and Jane (Cathy Mauer) Gibbs; parents in-law, Dan and Zita Miller; four sisters in-law: Yvonne Duffy, Connie (Dave) McGee, Susie Miller, and Danielle (Brian) Fulford; five nieces and nephews: Sean, Megan (Heather), Jon David, Derrick (Nicole), and Brian (Natalia); and a special person, Katie Waters. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother in-law, Mike Duffy.
Details regarding a Celebration of Life for John will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Twin Lake Fireworks Fund, 2805 Lakeshore Rd, Twin Lake, MI, 49457. Arrangements by The Sytsema Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 737 Apple Ave, Muskegon, MI, 49442. Please sign the family’s online guestbook and share memories at sytsemafh.com
