John Joseph Halloran's Obituary
Mr. John Joseph Halloran, age 90, passed away at his home in Norton Shores, Michigan on Friday, January 19, 2024. He was born in Muskegon, Michigan on December 7, 1933 to John L. and Mary (Buckley) Halloran. On September 4, 1954, John married Joy Ann Rambo at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Muskegon. John received his Bachelor of Education from the University of Michigan and received his Master of Education + 30 from Western Michigan University. He was employed by Mona Shores Public Schools for 38 years prior to his retirement in 1991. He was an English teacher and English Department Chairman. John was the second person inducted into the Mona Shores Education Hall of Fame and was honored with an annual award in his name. John, along with his children, ran Decorating Specialties Co., a paint contracting business, for 25 years. In retirement, John and his wife started an antique business, J and J Collectables. John was a member of St. Patrick/St. Anthony Catholic Church where he was involved in Bible Study Group. He was formerly a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church where he served as a lay minister. John was an avid athlete, playing competitive softball for decades and tennis well into his 70’s. He was a voracious reader and enjoyed traveling and dancing with his wife, Joy. John loved his family deeply and is survived by his children, John Patrick (Paula) Halloran, Marianne (Tim) Rollenhagen, Daniel Halloran, Donna (Ryan) McHenry, Timothy (Desiree Dempsy) Halloran, and Amy Halloran; sixteen grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews and their families. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joy; parents; sisters, Mary Frances Halloran, Rita Czekuc, Patricia Halloran, Kathleen Sass, Monica Halloran, Bernadette Halloran, and Marcella Kammers; and brother, Terrence Halloran. SERVICES for John will be held 1:00 PM Monday, January 29, 2024 at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI 49444.
