John L. Haug's Obituary
John Louis Haug was born to John R. and Joanne (Pyka) Haug in Muskegon, MI on September 13, 1950. On January 8, 2021, John passed away peacefully at home from chronic health complications with loved ones by his side. John was a 1977 graduate of Orchard View High School. For many years he worked for Goodwill Industries; and later, Kandu Industries. John was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, where he participated as an altar server and sang in the choir. A member of the Goodwillies Bowling League, John loved to bowl and looked forward to the annual family Turkey Bowl on Thanksgiving Day. John enjoyed earning a paycheck, singing, crafting hook latch rugs and making potholders, listening to music, writing daily weather reports copied from the Muskegon Chronicle, and coloring. For many years, John was an Area 21 Special Olympian who earned numerous medals for track, bowling, and bocce ball. He was also an avid Lions and Notre Dame football fan and was a member of the Hope Reformed Friendship Club. John had a life well lived. He is survived by his siblings: Bill (Jane Curtis) Haug of Spring Lake, Andy Haug of Niles, MI, Joni (Dan) Warren of Spring Lake, and Anna (Greg) Moss of Muskegon. He is also survived by nieces and nephews: Mike (Melissa) Haug, Patrick Haug, Jessica Warren, Maddie, Lauren, and Drew Moss; great-nephews: Adam and Ryan Haug; and his sister’s dog, Bruno. In addition, John is survived by the caring and compassionate staff of the Harbor Pines Adult Foster Care Home and the residents he came to know over the last several months. John was preceded in death by his parents, aunts and uncles, and his life-long friend, Kevin O’Toole. John will be remembered for his fantastic sense of humor, his kind and loving spirit, and a friend to those who came to know him. He will be dearly missed by his siblings and extended family. A Funeral Service for John will be held 11:00 AM Monday, January 11, 2021 at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service. John will be laid to rest in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
