John H. Holland's Obituary
John H. Holland, age 92, of Grand Haven passed away on Monday, June 9, 2014 at Robbinswood Assisted Living Center. He was born on May 5, 1922 in Portia, Arkansas to Ole and Maude (Barns) Holland. John married the former Sybil Woods on April 3, 1944 in Blytheville, Arkansas.
John served his country in the U.S. Army during the World War II era in the Aleutian Islands, Alaska. He was a Plant Supervisor for 44 years at the Grand Haven Tribune. John was a member of the American Legion Charles A. Conklin Post #28, V.F.W. Post #2326 and the Masonic Lodge. He was a past president of the Grand Haven Buccaneer Booster Club and the Tri-Cities Kids League. John was also an assistant coach for the Grand Haven girl’s gymnastic team. He was an avid hunter and Tiger’s fan. Most of all John enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren play sports.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Sybil of 70 years; daughter, Gaila Manning of Grand Haven; sons, Garry (Cindy) Holland of Traverse City, and Timothy (Dawn) Holland of Custer, South Dakota; and grandchildren: Jason (Maureen) Robbins, Mindie (Randy) Willey, Corey Robbins, Stephanie (Chris) Jackson, Brooks (Katie) Holland, Sarah (Mike) Carter, and Garret Holland. John is also survived by twelve great-grandchildren; and his sister, Martha Reeves of Missouri.
A gathering of remembrance will be held 2:00 – 4:00 PM on Saturday, June 14, 2014 at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Grand Haven.
