John E. Knoll's Obituary
Mr. John Edgar Knoll, age 72, went to be with his Lord and Savior Wednesday, October 3, 2012, after his brave battle with cancer. He was born January 21, 1940, in Muskegon to John Edward and Evelyn Tressa (Robinson) Knoll and had been a life resident of the area. John had been a teacher and substitute teacher for Fruitport Schools from 1961 to 2011, where he had previously coached track, cross-country, junior-high basketball and served as an advisor for Ski Club, Debate and Student tours of Europe and Cedar Point. He also faithfully filled the position of Game Manager for Fruitport Schools under the Athletic Director. John later taught at the Muskegon Regional Center. He was an active member of Calvary Church, serving as a Sunday school teacher, AWANA leader, Trustee and Usher along with participating with Mission Trips. He enjoyed boating, skiing, golf, travel, hunting and virtually all outdoor activities, but most of all, he was a devoted family man. On January 26, 1963, he married the former Janet Fay Lane and she survives him along with 3 daughters, Kimberly Fay Knoll, Rebecca Marie Higgins and Kristyn Renae (Craig) Curtis; 4 grandchildren, Emma Knoll Curtis, Joshua Higgins, Riley Higgins and Elisabeth Curtis; and by his former son-in-law, Daniel Higgins. FUNERAL SERVICES will be 11:00 AM Monday, October 8, 2012, at Calvary Church 5873 Kendra Rd, Fruitport, with Pastor William Rudd officiating. Burial will be in Norton Cemetery. VISITATION with John’s family will be 2-4 & 6-8 PM Sunday (today) at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc., 6291 S. Harvey Street, Norton Shores, MI 49444 (231-798-1100), and one-hour prior to the service at church. For a more lasting memorial you are asked to consider the Calvary Church Mission Fund.
