Rev. John Case Moser's Obituary
Rev. John Case Moser, age 86, passed away peacefully at his home in Norton Shores, Michigan on Sunday, May 5, 2024. He was born in Jakarta, Indonesia on April 27, 1938 to Jan and Joanna (Oosthoek) Moser. At the age of five, John and his older sister were captured and held in a Japanese prison camp in Java, Indonesia, while his mother and brother were held in a different camp. Six thousand prisoners were held in the camp, and after 4 ½ years, John, his sister, his mother, and his brother were among the 375 who made it out alive. He returned home to the Netherlands at the age of 12 and later attended college and earned a degree in horticulture. In 1966, John was recruited by McKay Nursery of Wisconsin as their chief propagator. He then moved to Michigan to work for Zelenka Nursery, was the district manager for Franks Nursery in Grand Rapids, and then started his own nursery in Spring Lake, Michigan: Hortech Inc. Later in life, John felt called into the ministry, and he received his Master of Divinity from Western Theological Seminary at Hope College. John served Newaygo and the surrounding communities for many years through his Chaplaincy Services of Newaygo County. He also owned and operated Harbour Antiques in Grand Haven prior to his retirement in 2010. John enjoyed gardening, antiques, and travelling the world. On March 16, 1990, John married the former Jan E. McCormick in Grand Rapids and she survives him along with four children: Annemieke (Kevin) Sullivan, Marjolein (John Bousfield) Moser, Joshua (Shannen) Roeder, and Abby Roeder; two grandchildren: Dr. Katie (Danny) Lamere and Connor (Darci) Sullivan; brother: Hans (Chris) Moser; niece: Kim (Nick) Moser; nephew: Duncan (Natasha) Moser; and his former wife: Reini Moser. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister. According to his wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held.
