John C. Thompson's Obituary
John C. Thompson, age 84, of Spring Lake passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 6, 2020. John was born November 8, 1936, in Chicago, IL to Clare and Donna (Kwet) Thompson.
At a young age John’s family moved to the west side of Grand Rapids where he grew up. John graduated from Grand Rapids Catholic Central in 1954. He then attended Grand Rapids Junior College. John joined the Army National Guard at age 24 and served for 4 years. Shortly after, he started working at his father’s trucking company (Blue Arrow Trucking) from where he retired at age 44.
John enjoyed his hunting camp in White Cloud, MI where he loved to hunt and fish. His charismatic personality made him a wonderful host. Many weekends were spent entertaining his close buddies.
John was an avid boater. He was most happy cruising the waters of Spring Lake and exploring the waterways of Florida on his Boston Whaler.
John was always up for an adventure, filling up the tank and setting out in search of a new destination. Traverse City held a special place in John’s heart. He was always eager to try a new restaurant “in search of a great steak or BLT”.
John was kindhearted, generous and fun. He had a witty demeanor and his off-color humor often elicited many laughs. John relished in the banter of ribbing friends with his love of Ohio State.
In the later years of John’s life, he embraced his Catholic faith. He took great solace in finding his way back into the church.
John leaves behind several cousins and close friends - too many to name. He is lovingly remembered by Blair Anderson and Jill VanderEnde.
A visitation for John will be held from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 10, 2020, at The Spring Lake Chapel, with a private memorial service at 1:00 p.m. with Rev.
