John "Jute" Bowman's Obituary
Mr. John J. “Jute” Bowman, age 96, went to be with his Lord Wednesday morning, May 3, 2006. He was born July 13, 1909 in Fremont, MI to John & Helen (Zagers) Bowman and has resided in the Muskegon area since 1922. “Jute” proudly served with the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII; and had been a contract administrator for Teledyne Continental Motors for 27 years, prior to his retirement, in 1973. He had previously been a candy salesman for McDonald’s Candies, servicing Meijer’s stores for Hendrik Meijer. He was the oldest member of Bethany Christian Reformed Church and an avid fan of WMCHS sports. On June 27, 1936, he married the former Lucille Paull and she preceded him in death on March 11, 1996. SURVIVORS include 1 daughter, Judith (Robert) Putnam of Cedar Springs; 1 son, Jeffrey Bowman of Grand Rapids; 8 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-granddaughter; 1 sister-in-law, Ruth Szendre of Fort Smith, AR and by 10 nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his parents, brother, “Bud” and sisters, Emma Phillips and Dorothy VanDyke. SERVICES will be 1PM Saturday at Sytsema Funeral Home, 737 Apple Avenue, Muskegon, MI 49442 (231-726-5210).
