John O. Olsen's Obituary
John O. Olsen, age 77, of Spring Lake passed away Monday, January 5, 2009, at his home. He was born March 5, 1931, in Fruitport, MI, to John and Ada (Lockard) Olsen, and he married the former Jean Strouse on July 23, 1954, in Grand Haven.
A graduate of Spring Lake High School, Mr. Olsen was a lifelong area resident and had been employed as a hammer fitter for Story & Clark and later worked for Haworth. He served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. John enjoyed bowling, fishing, woodworking, camping, working in his yard, and especially spending time with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed being a member of the Story & Clark and Idle Hour coffee groups.
John is survived by his loving wife, Jean; a daughter, Pam (Roger) Bulson of Spring Lake; a son, Timothy Jon Olsen of Hesperia; one granddaughter, Melissa Olsen; three great-grandchildren: Calub, Zoey, and Gracee; a sister, Betty (C.J.) Boomgaard of Florida; a brother, Rick Olsen of Grand Haven; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Oscar and Lloyd Olsen.
The service for John will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 9, 2009, at First Baptist church of Spring Lake with Pastor Tim Murdock officiating. Friends may meet the family 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday, January 8, at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Spring Lake. Interment will be in Spring Lake Cemetery. Military rites will be provided by the VFW Sgt. Alvin Jonker Post #2326 in Grand Haven. Memorial contributions to Hospice of North Ottawa Community, http://www.noch.org/hospice.html, are appreciated.
