Jonathan Matych's Obituary
Mr. Jonathan Matych, age 38, passed away unexpectedly and without pain, Wednesday, May 14, in a work accident. He was born February 6, 1987, in Grand Rapids to Bob and Christine (Walek) Matych. On August 1, 2013, he married Zoë Pillen on the island of Oahu in a small ceremony.
Jonathan owned the Green Man Tree Care and was so passionate about trees and arboriculture. His interests and hobbies as described by his children and family included
hunting, playing Skyrim, basketball, thrifting, hiking, watching and coaching his kids in sports, fishing, joke music, leather tooling, working on fixing Kennard's moped, reading, writing, swimming, skiing, roller skating, growing plants, mushroom hunting, boating with family on the "Never Forget", tubing, showboating his wakeboarding skills, archery, camping, car repair (not by choice), kayaking, fly-fishing (including the figure eight retrieve method), ping pong using Michael's back, sharp things, and above all else spending time with his family.
Jon graduated from Kalamazoo College in 2009. He is survived by his wife, Zoë; three children: Dylan, Paloma, and Griffin; parents, Bob and Christine; brother, Michael Matych, in-laws, Bart and Michelle Pillen, brother-in-law, Kanoa (Ji Hyeon Song); niece and nephew, Oliver, and Lily; an enormous amount of friends and fellow tree industry family.
A Celebration of Life will take place 11:30 Friday, May 23, 2025, at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 S. Harvey St. Norton Shores, MI 49444. Visitation will be held 1.5 hours before the service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions in memory of Jonathan may be given to the Go Fund Me - Jon Matych.
