Joseph "Joe" Stalzer's Obituary
Joseph “Joe” Stalzer, age 67, of Spring Lake passed away Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at Spectrum Butterworth Hospital. He was born October 25, 1949 in Grand Haven to Joseph and Helen (Gosen) Stalzer. On December 16, 1978 he married Susan DeCan in Spring Lake.
Joe was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and served his country in the US Marines Corps during Vietnam. He owned Joseph Stalzer Builders and was talented in whatever he did. Joe was a Captain of the Spring Lake Fire Department, where he served as a first responder, and was on the hazmat and dive team. He enjoyed hunting and going to the cabin up north. Most of all he was a devoted man; devoted to his church, family and fire department and will be missed by all.
He is survived by his wife, Susan; three children: Joe (Diana Archuleta) of New Orleans, Mikki (Jeston Carter) of Spring Lake and Brad (Elizabeth) Stalzer of Spring Lake; two grandchildren, Dottie and Coco; father, Joseph; six siblings: Jeanne Zalsman, Janet Hill, Joy Atterholt, Janie Doyle, Julie Seaman, and John Stalzer. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Helen; and sister, Jessie Tripp; special canine companion, Rocko.
A Memorial Mass will be held 11:00 AM Monday, September 11, 2017 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Rev. David Gross officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
