I didn't know my Grandpa Joe all to well because I was born and raised in a different state, but I remember the time he visited my father and I in Arizona, which is my first recollection of ever meeting him. And, what really stood out about the man to me was his large nose! Haha
I constantly kept thinking to myself was "I really hope my nose doesn't get that large as I get old". But I really wish I had more time to get to know my Grandpa Joe. Today at the funeral I got a better idea of what a wonderful man he was. I am thankful I had the opportunity to see him a few more times before his passing, and I am also thankful I have the opportunity to get to know my Michigan family and the people who knew him well. I love you, Grandpa Joe. Say hello to my dad and Uncle Boone for me. Rest in peace.

I grew up with Joe because he was the very best friend my Dad, Wayne Gale could ever have. Dad & Joe would always smile when one of them bragged about being friends for over 40 years and never even having one argument. Many great memories with Joe and the families mingling over the years...ones that I will always treasure. "See ya in Heaven Joe, I'll keep an eye on Dad for ya till we all meet again." There are so many! I think I could actually write a book. The chronicles of grandpa, but they always started with me waiting for that pastel Newkirk truck driving down the driveway. He would walk in the door and we would help him pull his overalls off because he would pretend like he needed our help. Grandma Turtle had dinner made. Yes! We were most likely eating chicken the occasional rabbit or turtle, but grandpa was known for always having his glass of homemade tomato juice with every meal. Almost forgot about the peanut butter! He also loved his peanut butter with bread. He taught, he loved me, he disciplined me, he spoiled me ;•) I was blessed by him in several ways.
What a handsome man, you were the best, so loving, caring and always ready to give me a hug, a great father-in-law who I will miss very much. You made the best chili ever.
I had the honor of living with Grandpa and Grandma Sandy while I finished my junior year of high school. I'll never forget the morning he went out to walk the dogs and returned out of breath and having a hard time with his words. He proclaimed that there was a black bear at the end of the driveway. He woke everyone up and told them to get in the car. We were going to et a closer look. Grandpa, Grandma, Cousin Ashley and I got into Grandpas car and followed the bear. As we got closer it stopped and looked at us. We were all amazed as this was our first encounter with a wild bear!.... Then it barked at us. The huge Black bear was just a very large hairy dog. Living with him was one of my favorite childhood memories.
