Joseph P. Sedlock's Obituary
Joseph P. Sedlock, age 78, of Ferrysburg passed away Monday, June 28, 2010, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born August 1, 1931, the youngest of eight children, to George and Maria “Mary” (Kopas) Sedlak in Barnesboro, Pennsylvania. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, and he married the former Mary Frances “Fran” Kettler on December 18, 1954, in Detroit.
Grandpa moved to the Tri-Cities area from Detroit in 1996. He had been employed as a mechanical engineer for Jervis B. Webb in Farmington Hills for 32 years. He was formerly very active in Our Lady of Grace Church in Dearborn Heights and the Bishop Borgess High School Men’s Club in Redford. A member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Spring Lake, he was active in several parish groups, including Senior Citizens, St. Mary’s Senior Group, and St. Mary’s Men’s Golf. He was a member of the American Legion Charles A. Conklin Post #28 in Grand Haven, the CYO (Catholic Youth Organization) Men’s Club, and the Sokol Hall in Dearborn Heights. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, hunting, taxidermy, and anything mechanical. He especially enjoyed his summer home up north, attending Spring Lake and Hope College basketball games, and any of his grandchildren’s activities.
He is survived by his loving wife, Fran; a daughter, Suzanne (Dan) Holt of Spring Lake; three sons: Matthew (Maria) Sedlock of Carlsbad, CA, Joseph (Linda Schmidt) Sedlock of Saginaw, and Stephen (Jennifer) Sedlock of Carlsbad, CA; eleven grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters.
The Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 1, 2010, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Spring Lake with Rev. Fr. Daniel DePew as celebrant. Friends may meet the family Wednesday, June 30, from 6-9 p.m., with a Scripture Service at 7:30 p.m., at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Spring Lake and one hour prior to the service at church.
