Jovita Cox's Obituary
Jovita Cox, age 86, with family at her side, peacefully passed away at home early Tuesday morning, following a short illness. She was born in Papaikou, Hawaii on February 15, 1925 to Simeon and Bibiana (Nasibog) Sarme. She married Howard J. Cox in Hawaii on July 1, 1952 and moved to Muskegon in 1954. Jovita was a talented musician and for many years played piano at many of West Michigan’s favorite night spots as well as performed with the Sweet Adeline’s. She was later employed at the Mona Lake Boating Club where she introduced its annual luau and continued to be a lifelong member. Jovita was a knowledgeable and avid gardener and an outstanding cook. She was a member of the St. Mark Lutheran Church and is survived by her: husband, Howard; six children, Dr. Audrie Reaver in Norway, Jamie Ireland of Norton Shores, James (Debbie) Cox of Norton Shores, David Cox of Hilo, Hawaii, Donald Cox of Boulder, CO and Rev. Ronald (Hoan) Cox of Stony Lake, MI; two brothers, Joseph and Manuel Sarme both of Hawaii; two sisters, Mary Kagawa and Susie Aranado of Hawaii; 12 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by: her parents; two brothers, Elias & Don and a son-in-law, Roger Ireland this past March.
