J. Roger Holmstrom's Obituary
J. Roger Holmstrom, age 83, of Spring Lake (formerly of Muskegon) passed away Thursday, August 4, 2005, in Muskegon. He was born March 2, 1922, to John Axel and Ellin A. (Selander) Holmstrom in Ludington and married the former Donna M. Morton in 1947. Donna preceded him in death in 1970.
Mr. Holmstrom was a Veteran of World War II having served in the Army and a graduate of Michigan State University and attended University of Michigan Law School. He was a Certified Public Accountant and was a former managing partner with Maihoffer, Moore & DeLong and retired in 1984 as managing partner of Grant Thornton. Mr. Holmstrom was a member of Samuel Lutheran Church, past president of Greater Muskegon Industrial Fund Inc; past president, vice president and financial chairman of Muskegon Country Club; past director and board member of Muskegon Area Chamber of Commerce; life member and past director of Michigan Association of CPAs, and a member of the Muskegon Elks. Roger enjoyed golf, financial planning and fitness activities.
Survivors include his wife Lois K. “Putt”, two daughters; Laurie (Larry) Mason of Spring Lake, Jan (Tim) Wellemeyer of Haslett, MI, son, Kurt Holmstrom of Richmond, VA, 4 step-daughters; Claudia, Sarah, Jill and Susan and 3 step-sons; Clark, Joe and Todd. 6 grandchildren; Matt, Ryan and Scott (Becky) Mason, Katie and Anna Wellemeyer and Jesse Holmstrom. A sister, Mary Ellen Smith of Pentwater and several nieces and nephews also survive. His brother, Russell Holmstrom preceded him in death.
A funeral service for Roger Holmstrom will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at VanZantwick, Bartels, Kammeraad in Spring Lake with Pastor John Rager officiating. Friends may meet the family Monday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday 1 hour prior to the service at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Spring Lake. Interment will be at Lakeside cemetery. In appreciation for the loving care Roger received, memorials may be made to Hackley Visiting Nurses Services and The Bob & Merle Scolink Hospice House in Muskegon.
