Kathy R. Crawford's Obituary
Kathy Crawford, age 64, passed away peacefully in her home in Muskegon, MI, on Monday, January 13, 2025, under a full moon with both daughters and sisters by her side.
Kathy was born on December 14, 1960, in Muskegon, MI. She graduated from Mona Shores High School in 1978 and went on to graduate from Muskegon Community College with a degree in graphic arts before going on to receive a degree in business from Ferris State University. Afterwards she moved to Florida to pursue her love and curiosity for the ocean. While there she furthered her education and received her nursing degree from Palm Beach Nursing. Still, her love for the ocean persisted and she moved to Atlanta, GA, in 1996 to open a dive shop. Soon after, she married and had two daughters, which just meant two more bags to pack before she was off again. Incorporating her girls into her curiosity and love for adventure, she led hundreds of dive trips around the world. After 17 years spent in GA, she and her girls moved to her hometown of Muskegon, MI. She spent the last ten years kayaking, rock hunting, pursuing her love of art, especially watercolor painting, and truly enjoying every moment she had with her family and old friends.
She was a jack of all trades, working at a print shop, owning and operating a dive shop, and working on the frontlines as a nurse during the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Kathy had an infectious enthusiasm for life and positivity. No one she met was a stranger as she had a knack for bringing people together. Over the last twenty years she lived through multiple cancer diagnoses but she never let it define her or slow her down.
Kathy will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Kaitlyn and Kai Metcalf; step-son, Richard Metcalf and children; sisters: Karen and Kim Crawford; mother, Edith Louise Crawford-Potts; nieces: Kendra (Jordan) Musselman and children and Jacy Nichols; nephews: John (Tami) Korndorfer and child and Richard (Carly) Korndorfer and children; and a village of friends near and far who she loved so dearly. She was met with a large embrace on the other side by her father, John W. Crawford Jr, and her nephew, Kory Lennon.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Kathy at 2:00 PM on Sunday, February 16, at The Mona Lake Boat Club, 372 Randall Rd, Norton Shores, MI, 49441. To honor the life of such a radiant woman, please wear something brightly colored, especially her favorite color, turquoise. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Hands of Hope Foundation . Arrangements by The Sytsema Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 737 Apple Ave, Muskegon, MI, 49442.
