Katie DeYoung, age 102, passed away Friday, February 21, 2020 at Christian Care. She was born on June 6, 1917 to Abel and Albertha (Southland) DeYoung in Muskegon. Katie was a member of Fellowship Reformed Church since 1938 and he Read Obituary
I have many memories of my friend Katy, we worked as Administrators for Christian Home for the Aged, for more than 50 years between us. One thing that was so special about Katy is that she never forgot you, when I retired and moved to Florida, Katy never forgot to send me a birthday card or a Christmas Card ,with a nice note, and even when she was failing and couldn’t write any more, she never forgot me, she would call and wish me the best, a true friend will be missed.

Katie was very special to me. I worked with her serving as a deacon, elder and Sunday School teacher during our 30+ years at Fellowship. My favorite memory was when serving as a Deacon someone thought that we should take Katie a Thanksgiving basket when she was living in Egelcraft. I volunteered to take it to Katie and when I got there she chewed me out better than a General we called “barbed wire” because that’s what you felt like when he got done with you. After refusing the basket and telling me to give it to someone who really needed it, she then invited me for milk and cookies, which I of course did. I loved Katie and will miss her.

My thoughts go out to all of Katie's family. I remember her so well from my childhood days at Fellowship Reformed Church and when I went to work with my grandmother Eileen Wildie at the Christian Home for the Aged. I moved away from Fellowship in my early teens but was reaquainted with her when she gave me my very first job in the kitchen at the Christian Home for the Aged.
Katie had been friends with my grandparents Roy and Eileen Wildie for a lifetime it seems. She was always kind and caring.
