Katie DeYoung's Obituary
Katie DeYoung, age 102, passed away Friday, February 21, 2020 at Christian Care. She was born on June 6, 1917 to Abel and Albertha (Southland) DeYoung in Muskegon. Katie was a member of Fellowship Reformed Church since 1938 and her involvement included Sunday School treasurer and teacher, Ladies Aid, Ladies Guild, bulletin secretary for 25 years, and was an elder. Katie was a 4H Leader for 10 years, had a love for knitting caps for hospital babies and enjoyed her time with the Patchers at the Lakeshore (PALS) group. Prior to 1987, Katie was the administer in management for 23 years for Christian Home for the Aged. On July 8, 1938, she married Albert DeYoung and he preceded her in death in 1990. SURVIVORS include 4 children, Jean (Bernard) Galdeen, Mary Warden, Elsie Klint and Ruth (William) Baxter; 12 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren; several great-great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Willodean DeYoung; sister, Marion DeYoung; sisters-in-law, Connie DeYoung and Corina DeYoung. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, William DeYoung; brothers, Jay, Harold, Abe and John DeYoung. A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held 11:00 AM, Wednesday, February 26, 2020 at Fellowship Reformed Church (4200 Apple Ave.) with Pastor Mike VanKampen officiating. VISITATION with the family will be held 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Tuesday evening at The Sytsema Chapel of Sytsema Funeral and Cremation Services, 737 Apple Ave., Muskegon, MI 49442. MEMORIALS can be directed Harbor Hospice Foundation or the American Heart Association. Burial will take place at Sunrise Memorial Gardens. Share memories with the family at www.sytsemafh.com.
