I first met Ken at church when my brother introduced us. I was 8 years old and I was going to finally be able to join Cadets in September of 1973. I heard only great things about Cadets. Once I joined I really got to know Ken and the other counselors. I am a Christian today because of Ken.
I never really knew how much Ken did for Cadets until I was about 15. I sort of followed Ken around as he worked outside of Cadets and doing all of the behind the works stuff that Cadets needed. I thought it was 2 hours a week every Thursday night, but it was so much more than that. Pizza sales, Tom-Wat, weekend camping trips, week long summer camping and serving at Cadets headquarters in Grand Rapids just to name a few. Cadets at Calvin Christian Reformed Church would not have existed if it weren’t for the dedication that Ken had towards Cadets. I know there were other counselors that were there also, but Cadets was Ken through and through.
I cannot thank him and his family enough. Ken’s family allowed him to serve Cadets and because of that MANY adults are Christians today because of the work Ken did when they were kids.
