Larry G. Derks' Obituary
Mr. Larry Derks, age 71, passed away unexpectedly early Monday morning, March 22, 2010, in Sarasota, Florida. He was born December 8, 1938 in Muskegon to George and Jeannette (Middlecamp) Derks and had been a lifelong resident of the area. He was an active member of Ferrysburg Community Church and was also a member of the Portside Model “A” Club and the Dusty Wheels Model “A” Club. Larry was actively involved with CRWRC disaster relief and also volunteered his services to his Lord through mission work in South America. Larry worked with his sons at Star Crane and Hoist Service, Inc., which they founded 25 years ago. Larry’s passions were his Model A’s, fishing, playing his banjo and living for Christ. He was the life of the party and will be sadly missed by all who knew him. On November 4, 1960 he married the former Marilyn Kay Zuidema and she survives him along with 3 children, Craig and wife Lora Derks of Spring Lake, Cynthia “Cindy” Derks of Grand Rapids and Curt and wife Victoria Derks of Traverse City, MI; 4 grandchildren who meant the world to him, Nathan, Megan, Lydia and Tobin Derks; 1 brother, Paul and wife Rhonda Derks of Muskegon; 2 sisters, Lois and husband Brad Lange of Muskegon and Linda and husband, Rev. Dale Grimm of Chelsea, MI. Larry was preceded in death by 1 grandchild, Taylor; his parents; and 1 sister, Ruth Derks. A FUNERAL SERVICE for Larry will be held 11AM Friday, March 26, 2010 at Ferrysburg Community Church (17785 Mohawk Dr., Spring Lake, MI 49456) with Rev. Nate Visker and Rev. Joel Zuidema, co-officiating. Burial will be in Norton Cemetery. VISITATION with Larry’s family will be 2-4 & 6-8PM Thursday at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc.
