To the entire Family of "Larry (a.k.a.) "The Candy Man".
Especially to Janice, Johnathon and my dear friend forever "Glady".
J.W. & I would go the the Legion every Tuesday for $1.00 beer day. He would always say to us. "Where did you boy's play today? (J.W. and I are dimple heads. What that means is we will golf in any kind of wheather, rain, snow, sleet, hail, thunders storm's, you name it, we have golfed in it all, more than once, kind of like the Mailman's or Wemen's Postal Service Syndrome!!! Notice I am politically correct!!!We purchase Ilegal clubs, and balls. We have more illegal's than cross the Mexican Border every day)!!!) and it is mandatory to visit Myrtle Beach once a year) to be a true Dimple Head. It's the rule and the law as well!!!
Twenty years ago I first met Larry and it was through Glady. We hit it off immediatly. I'm a good judge of character being a bartender for the last 23 years of bartending in Grand Haven. I was Club Board President when I met "The Candy Man" for the very first time. I knew we would be good friend's right from the get go. And we still are and allways will be. I know that he is in a better place than we are now. I know that God is serving Miller Lite in the can or longneck and God knows Larry likes it COLD!!!
I bought him a beer on Dollar Day at the Legion more than once. He gladly accepted. On one paticular Tuesday I asked him "Larry whould you like another on me. His reply was "No thank you I'm good for now". That's when I asked Larry if he worked in the Medical Field? He stated "No"!!! Then he asked me "Why"? "You know I'm the "Candy Man" I allways will be!!! Why did you ask that"? I stated to him, "Because you sure are nursing that beeer!!!
These are the good memory's I will allways have with Larry as your entire family and all of his many friends should have as well. He is such a great man who had strong "Values and Goals" in his family life. Many times Larry would tell me what a great family he has and how much he loved and cared about you very much.
In turn Larry would ask me "Fred do you want another "Tang"?. ( It's actually a "Screw driver") and the reason I explained to my friend Larry that back in the day Astonaut's drank Tang. It was the breakfast of
Astronaught's, My "Tang" is the breakfast of Bartenders!!! We are such great friends that he knew that. That is why I will miss his friendship untill I hopefully see him again in Heaven.
Larry never told me about his sister Jean passing. He was and still is that kind of Man. I will always remember Larry as a great friend. He will be missed by many, many, family and friends.
I have allways respected Larry for a variety of reasons. Number one was his personality, and his outlook on life. He was care free and loved his family and friends very much. We all returned the favor of being his true friend because "What you see in Larry is what you got no Phoney"!!! He will allways be "One of a Kind"!!! As well as he deserves.
I will miss him dearly and he has been in my prayers ever since J.W. told me he had passed.
Whith the utmost respect this is how I feel in my heart about the "Candy Man".
