Laurence "Larry" Visconti's Obituary
Laurence “Larry” George Visconti passed away in the early morning hours of Wednesday, April 9, 2025. He was hand in hand with beloved family members when he took his final breath.
Larry was born on March 25, 1954, to parents Laurence and Doris Visconti. He is survived by his wife and best friend of 45 years, Kelly Visconti; three children, Justin (Louann), Anthony (Cathleen), Rachel (Murph) DeVane; grandchildren, Kendalle, Kaden, Cru, Tenley and Cleo; two sisters, Kathy Visconti and Laurie Mills; brother, Bob Visconti; and many adored nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Sandra Flynn and Jenny Visconti; and brother, Ray Visconti.
Larry grew up in Roseville, Michigan attending Carl Brablec High School and continued his education at Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti. While in college he shared several houses with his siblings Jenny, Laurie and Ray in Ann Arbor and became a die-hard Michigan fan, a passion that would continue until his final days. While approaching his senior year at EMU he was thrown a curveball that would change the trajectory of his life significantly. He moved to Muskegon to take over for his ill father at the family bar, Visconti’s Taverne. It’s here that he met a black-haired beauty, Kelly Ogden, and less than a year later they were married. Eventually, Visconti’s Taverne was sold, and Larry went on to finish his undergraduate degree at GVSU before earning his master's from WMU. In 1986, he and Kelly settled in North Muskegon where Justin, Anthony and Rachel attended North Muskegon High School.
His sister Sandra liked to say Larry had “the soul of a poet” and his way with words translated quite seamlessly into a career as a counselor. He began his career at Friend of the Court in Muskegon, subsequently counseling at Orchard View High School and Muskegon Community College.
He was a recognizable figure in the community, acting as the announcer for the North Muskegon baseball and football teams for a decade plus. He was an avid walker down Ruddiman Drive in North Muskegon, often waving to passersby who returned the welcome.
Larry was perhaps most famously known for his spaghetti and meatballs. In addition to hosting his family and friends for holidays, birthdays or no reason at all other than to be together, he was also tasked with cooking for a variety of community functions.
He will be greatly missed for his incredible wit and humor, his unwavering generosity, love for family and for being the guy that so many people leaned on when they didn’t know what to do.
A Memorial Mass will be held 10:00 AM Friday, April 25, 2025, at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception. Memorial contributions in memory of Larry may be given to the Muskegon Rescue Mission. Please sign the family’s online guestbook at www.sytsemafh.com.
