I know this is a little late but i just found this today....wow what a great feeling to know that my Dad was loved by so many people. I sure miss being able to pick up the phone and dial his number. Larry was a good friend through the years. From the days when we went to Wolf Lake School togather through our teens and into adult hood, he remained thoughtful & kind to others. Even though we seldom got to see him after we left Muskegon, when we did get togather he was always the same great person I knew as a kid. His departure will undoubtedly leave a void in many lives as it has in ours.

Louie and I are so very sorry to learn that Larry passed. We didn't get to know him very long but the short time we did, we learned Larry was a Cousin to my Cousin's Husband, Fran McCarthy, and all this because he came to our yardsale. He returned a few times for great talks and learned we all knew a lot of the same kids from school days. Bless his heart. He was a very neat guy. I remember the silly and fun times we had in high school gym class. McClain and McCarthy were always lined up next to each other. It was enjoyable to see Larry over the years and talk about our kids, who went to middle school together. Whenever I saw Larry he had a warm smile to greet me. You kids can be proud of your dad and the way he had of making others feel welcome and comfortable around him. 9 months ago my Uncle Larry was walking 5 miles a day for treatment for an illness that has no cure. He never gave up and that is something that I will live to achieve and teach my children. ALways came to see me at home and treated my children with love. When I was little he scolded me for stepping on his stuff in his room and I thought as I child that he was mad at me. Then he reassured me that we were still buddies and that he still loved me.
I will never forget the life and struggles he had.I will also remember the wonderful things he did like taking Grandma to all her dinners to the schools and parties. Always being there for birthday parties for me and my kids. You will be missed and loved until we meet again. Buddies forever and always. I will always remember my Uncle Larry. He gave me so many treasures from his metal detecting journeys and many gifts he found while he was out and about. Every time he saw something dolphin he instantly thought of me. My life will never be the same. But the treasure I will hold most dearly and closely to my heart was the love he had for me as his niece and the the day he said he was blessed to have a niece like me, I live with those words etched in my mind and heart.
