I was so sorry to hear of Laverne's passing. Laverne was my apprenticeship coordinator (teacher) in the Ironworkers trade. He was a most important mentor to me, as well as his two brothers Gene and Dale also were in following years of my IW carrier.
The extended Dumas family ovetall has proven to provide among the very best Ironworkers, co workers and most importantly friends of mine throughout my life. Not just friends, true and lifelong friends. Among the next generation of Laverne's family that graced me with their company, comraderie and friendship are Kenny and Dave Dumas. My heart breaks for my friends that have had to survive this tremendous family loss. Love you all Dumas family.

Cindy and Family my wife and I are sincerely sympathetic in the loss of both of your parents Vern and "Sammy". Rebecca and I both met your parents at Muskegon Vineyard Fellowship at 1428 Terrace Street around 2002 or 2003. Vern had a wood workshop in the basement of the church. We still have two projects that Vern made; The Communion Table with the words that read Do This In Remembrance Of Me and The Cross that was made with two 2x4 lumber that was six feet long for the vertical base and another two 2x4 lumber for the horizontal base, and a solid square base for the Cross to be set in. Currently, these two projects are at 1128 Roberts Street and we plan on taking them with us when we move into our new address at 1215 East Apple Avenue around December of 2021 [Kingdom Life].

I met Laverne over 50 years ago. We worked together many times over the years. He was the most talented ironworker I ever knew. He could do any part of the trade could fix anything and teach you as you worked together. He was a good friend. Cindy, Eric and family take comfort now and in the days ahead in knowing he is in good hands, for he has gone to the big job in the sky.

My husband and I got to know Verne when he moved to our neighborhood a few years back. He was always so friendly, kind, and caring. He will be missed by all who knew him. Our neighborhood is a sadder place without him. We will be out of town during his celebration of life, but have his family in our prayers.

I am truly saddened by the loss of your Dad.
He was a GREAT Iron worker and more importantly he was a GREAT person and friend. Saying we will miss him is an understatement. LaVern often had many friends laughing and liked telling stories and reminiscing about work. On my way to work, I often remember seeing your Dad working on special projects in his workshop at home taking his time and so happy to help others. The world has lost a GREAT person. May all the memories help you through this difficult time.

I met Vern the first time when he came to visit Sammy while she was at Christian care. It was an instant friendship~I just loved how much he cherished coming to visit her w.his great friend Billy! After she went back home to be w.him, I was blessed to be asked to care for her in the home. This time with them only solidified my love for both Sammy, and Vern. I have always said how lucky I am to have so much to talk w.him about...despite our age difference. He truly seemed to know about just about anything we spoke of. I will miss playing cribbage, having breakfast w.him, listening to him play the guitar or keyboard, his great hugs, and all the stuff we had planned but never got a chance to do! I will always brag about the fact that I once had an 80yr old man that I could call one of my best friends!! 🤍
