Lawrence L. "Larry" Lapomarda's Obituary
Mr. Lawrence L. “Larry” Lapomarda, age 57, passed away Saturday evening, September 25, 2004. He was born October 7, 1946 in Portland, Maine to Joseph and Camilla (Trepanier) Lapomarda and had lived in the Muskegon area since childhood. On December 19, 1970, he married the former Carole J. Chaney in Muskegon and she survives him. Larry received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in History from Western Michigan University. He was employed as a high school teacher for Orchard View Schools for almost 30 years teaching History and English. Larry also worked as a coach and was a referee for boys and girls basketball. He was also known as the “Voice of the Cardinals” announcing varsity football games for many years. Larry was a third degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council 706 where he had served on the Building Committee for many years. He was also a member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church where he served as a reader and Eucharistic distributor. SURVIVORS include his wife, Carole Lapomarda of Norton Shores; 2 daughters, Jessica (Roy) Holden of Muskegon and Nicole (Timothy) Kolberg of Ravenna; 2 grandchildren, Monica and Joshua Holden; his mother, Camilla Lapomarda of Norton Shores; 1 sister, Rosemarie Flynn of Montague; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Lapomarda in 2002 and his brother-in-law, John Flynn. THE FUNERAL LITURGY will be celebrated 1:00 PM Wednesday, September 29, 2004 at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Phillip J. Witkowski presiding. VISITATION with Larry’s family will be 6-9 PM Tuesday at The Walburn Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc., 1547 W. Sherman Blvd., (231) 759-8565.
