Lester "Les" Edwards' Obituary
Mr. Lester "Les" Edwards, age 83, passed away Saturday morning, November 13, 2004 at his home in Norton Shores. He was born August 23, 1921 in Ludington, MI to Joseph and Mary (Voss) Edwards, grew up in Flint, MI, and has been a Muskegon area resident the majority of his adult life. Mr. Edwards was a Mechanical Engineer at Sealed Power before retiring in 1983 and was a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps. Les graduated at the top of his class in Air Craft Gunnery, was on the first wave to hit Guam, served aboard the U.S.S. Wasp until it was attacked by a Japanese bomber, and served in the Marine Air Squadron 4. He was reunited in 1989 with child hood friend Grace Darby, and together they loved to travel. Les married the former Theodora “Cleo” Floyd in 1947 and she precedes him in death along with his parents and 1 brother, Clarence Edwards. He is survived by 2 sons, Hal Edwards, John (Jill Dykema) Edwards; special friend Grace Darby; 2 grandchildren, James and Jillene Edwards; 4 sisters, Dorothy Reikloff, Florence (Richard) Hamilton, Opal Edwards, Erma (Ray) O’Reilly; and 1 cousin, Evelyn Jansen. A Funeral Service will be 1PM Wednesday, November 17 at Walburn-Sytsema Funeral home, 1547 W. Sherman Blvd., 231.759-8565 with Reverend Jonathan Rager officiating. Visitation with the family will be 2-4PM and 6-8PM Tuesday at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service Wednesday. Interment will take place at Norton Cemetery.
